Nubia in the Media
As a Nubian journalist, I have been noticing the underrepresentation and misrepresentation of Nubians in Egyptian cinema, drama and Ads. In black and white movies, Nubians had been represented as housekeepers. The trend has continued later, representing Nubians as naive people or "good people", nothing more or deeper, as if they're not normal Egyptians who are living all over the country. Currently, it is rare to find a movie with a Nubian character. Also in TV Ads, you see Nubian people always dancing and smiling in colorful houses, and this has become the sole image for Nubians on TV and media. In this session, I’ll highlight these actions, raising a question, why Nubian problems are never represented in the media.
