Nubian Week in School in Poland and Sudan

    → Pan od Historii, PCMA

Presentation of a cultural exchange program between a Polish school and schools in vicinity of archeological sites in El-Zuma and Old Dongola.

From 15 to 24 February our site was visited by Marcin Gostkowski, a history teacher from Warsaw primary schools, implementing the first part of the project 'We are only miles away'. The program is about establishing relations between schools from Poland and Sudan based on cultural exchange and willingness to help peers in a difficult financial situation as well as joint concern for local resources of the natural environment and cultural heritage.

In the first phase of the project, Marcin wrote down the needs of students and schools in El-Ghaddar, participated in meetings with local authorities and took part in the price-giving ceremony for best students.

Charity picnics in Warsaw and a series of workshops on the Sudanese culture are planned with the participation of volunteers from the Polish Centre of Mediterranean Archaeology. The collected funds can be used to finance the purchase of school aids and organizing a series of workshops for children in Sudan on local archaeological sites and environmental protection.
